Golfers Are Very Welcome!

With the Ryder Cup coming to this part of Scotland in September 2014, we thought there could never be a better time to highlight the wide range of golfing opportunities near our location in The Trossachs.

Gleneagles Within Easy Reach of our B&B

Creag-Ard Bed and Breakfast is located amidst the stunning scenery just to the west of Aberfoyle, about a 45 to 50 minute drive from the Gleneagles Hotel and Golf Resort (on the A9 trunk route through Scotland).

Follow the A81 through Port of Menteith and Thornhill (A81, becoming A873). From there continue in an easterly direction on the B826 to Doune, turn briefly onto the A84 and then right onto the A820 again heading east.

On the approach to Dunblane (home town of tennis player Andy Murray), pick up the A9 northbound to Auchterarder, where Gleneagles will be clearly sign-posted. It's a very scenic, pleasant route and relatively traffic free until you reach the main A9 road.

Day Trips To Auchterarder

Why not call in at the local deli for your packed lunch in the village before you set off? They stock a good range of food and drink with suppliers of fresh local produce.

Golf Courses Near Aberfoyle

Visitors who come to watch the world's best team golf competition may also like to play golf themselves whilst staying in the area.

There are so many golfing options here in central Scotland. Courses nearby include Aberfoyle Golf Club (www.aberfoylegolf.co.uk) about 5 minutes away by car. Quite a short course by Scottish standards, Aberfoyle provides a tricky test for golfers of all standards nonetheless and is very scenic. It has 6 par 3 holes and 12 par 4 holes and visitors are welcome 7 days per week (only after 10.30am at weekends). The green fees are very competitively priced with day rates also available.

Contact us here at Creag-Ard a few days before your arrival so that we can contact the Golf Club Secretary to ensure there are plenty of available tee times for when you want to play. Other courses within a short drive include:

All of these courses welcome visitors but it is always advisable to book your tee times as far in advance as possible, especially at weekends when the clubs may be hosting competitions or very busy with visiting golf society groups.
