For The Angling / Fishing Enthusiast:

Fish for wild trout – Creag-Ard can offer private fishing on the banks of Loch Ard (free of charge).

Nearby alternatives include the River Forth and the River Teith, where salmon and sea trout fishing is very popular.

Or, just five minutes from the house, Lake Menteith (the only lake in Scotland, the rest are all called lochs!) is home to larger, hard-fighting rainbow trout.

 

Wildlife and Bird Watching Opportunities:

Discover the red deer, roe deer and other wildlife abundant in the dense woodland and forests, or up on the mountainside.

A wide range of bird species call The Trossachs region home at various times of the year – including everything from eagles to water fowl and woodpeckers visiting the garden at Creag-Ard House.

 

Watersports:

At this quiet end of Loch Ard, small sailing boats (outboard motors not permitted) or canoes and kayaks can venture out onto the water from the launching and landing facilities at the guest house.

A larger water sports centre is at the top of the loch (the opposite end) where excellent facilities are available.

 

Golfing and Golf Courses:

Aberfoyle is about a mile (5 minutes by car) away and here you will find boasts a particularly attractive 18 hole golf course. Refreshments are of course served in the club house.

At Creag-Ard, we usually check with the Golf Club Secretary a few days before guests wish to play at the local course.

 

Cycling, Climbing and Walking

During your visit to the scenic Trossachs, you can enjoy cycling along specially designated cycle ways and tracks, or walking – with routes ranging from a quick stroll around the loch to a 20 mile hike!

Pony trekking and horse riding is also available locally.

 

Other Visitor Attractions Include:

Just over the other side of the mountains behind the house (about a 20 minute drive away) you can take a leisurely cruise on lovely Loch Katrine – a memorable day out on the Sir Walter Scott, a vintage paddle steamer.

There are more unique views to be found all the way round this serene loch. The area has an abundance of abbeys, cathedrals, historic houses and castles to explore as well as magnificent gardens to visit.

There is so much to see and do in this area, it is amazing that so many people just pass it by – at least you know something about it now!
